Valentines Heart Free Crochet Pattern

Valentines Day is just around the corner and I've created this free crochet heart pattern with a little pocket.

The pocket is perfect for small personalised notes or little sweets and would make a great gift for anyone.

Another great thing about these cute little hearts are that they are quick and easy to make!

For these hearts you will need a small amount of yarn, I used Stylecraft Special DK in Claret and Clematis.

The size of the hearts are 13cm length and 11cm width.

You will need:

3.5mm crochet hook

Small amount of DK yarn

Tapestry needle

Toy Stuffing

Stitches used - all in UK terms

dc - double crochet

dc2tog - double crochet 2 together

ch - chain

Heart Pattern

Chain 2

2. Ch 1, 2 dc in each stitch. Turn. ( 4 dc)

3. Ch 1, 2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc in the last stitch. Turn ( 6 dc)

4. Ch 1, 1 dc in each stitch. Turn. ( 6 dc)

5. Ch 1, 2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next 4 stitches, 2 dc in the last stitch. Turn. (8 dc)

6. Ch 1, 1 dc in each stitch. Turn. (8 dc)

7. Ch 1, 2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next 6 stitches, 2 dc in the last stitch. Turn. (10 dc)

8. Ch 1, 1 dc in each stitch. Turn. ( 10 dc)

Continue the increase row and the dc row until you have 28 stitches in total. Do not fasten off.

We are now going to make the first 'bump' at the top of the heart.

9. Ch 1, 1 dc in each of the next 14 stitches. Turn.

10. Ch 1, dc2tog the first 2 stitches, dc in the next 10 stitches, dc2tog the last 2 stitches. Turn. ( 12 dc)

11. Ch 1, 1 dc in each stitch. Turn. ( 12 dc)

12. Ch 1, dc2tog the first 2 stitches, 1 dc in the next 8 stitches, dc2tog the last 2 stitches. Turn. ( 10 dc)

13. Ch 1, 1 dc in each stitch. Turn. ( 10 dc )

14. Ch 1, dc2tog the first 2 stitches, 1 dc in the next 6 stitches, dc2tog the last 2 stitches. Turn. ( 8 dc)

Fasten off.

We are now going to make the other 'bump' of the heart.

Rejoin your yarn in the next stitch in the centre of the heart and repeat rows 9 -14.

Fasten off this first heart and weave in any ends.

Now we are going to make the pocket!

Chain 15

1. 1 dc in the 2nd chain from hook and in each stitch. Turn. ( 14 dc)

2-11. Ch 1, 1 dc in each stitch. Turn.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing and weave in any other ends.

Pin the pocket to the first heart and sew leaving the top for the pocket.

Now make the second heart, but do not fasten off as you will need to join the two hearts together using the double crochet stitch.

When joining the two hearts together make sure the pocket is facing on the outside and add toy stuffing 3/4 of the way through.

This heart can be made in any colour, size and any yarn.

The bigger the yarn, the bigger the heart!
